Built For You

After countless revisions and only a couple meaningful lyric changes, Built For You proves that sometimes the old foundation was already right—and perhaps deserved to keep the taiko drums.

Festival Program Note

And then the archive produces the annoying exception. After years of new tools, new mixes, new writing standards, and enough revisions to qualify as a minor administrative event, Built For You returns with almost the same song underneath it. A couple of lines moved, the production grew up, and somewhere along the way somebody inexplicably decided it needed fewer taiko fills. Apparently 2018 occasionally knew exactly what it was doing; the future just spent years checking.
The 2018 Archives: Old masters, questionable masters, and several ideas that somehow survived both. Archival criticism is permitted; dancing remains mandatory.

Before the lights Before the sound Before the crowd Shakes the ground Take a breath Take the view Love the dance Thank the crew Truss in the sky, lines on the ground Cables like rivers running through sound Hands on the faders, lights on cue You feel the drop, they built it for you Every spark, every view Every beat built for you Every hand passing through Love the dance, thank the crew Hands up high We see you Hands up high We see you Thank the crew Thank the crew Love the dance, thank the crew Thank the crew Thank the crew Thank the crew Thank the crew Gate lights flashing, scanning you in Security smiling, have a good spin Water and mentos standing by too You feel the night, they're watching you through Every spark, every view Every beat built for you Every hand passing through Love the dance, thank the crew From the rail to the booth From the gates to the roof Thank the crew Thank the crew Thank the crew Thank the crew Love the dance, thank the crew Tonight we're thousands, but not alone Every stage, every home From the rail to the booth Love the dance, thank the crew Hands up high All of you Love the dance, thank the crew Thank the crew Thank the crew Thank the crew Thank the crew Thank the crew Thank the crew Love the dance, thank the crew Love the dance, thank the crew Thank the crew Thank the crew Thank the crew
